NOMINATIONS FOR THE FASHION AWARDS 2016 ANNOUNCED
In just a month the Fashion Awards kick off in typically glitzy style at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall to celebrate 2016’s movers and shakers in the industry. For the first time the rebranded ceremony will support the British Fashion Council’s Education Foundation, which offers world-class scholarships to budding designers and future fashion professionals. Dame Natalie Massenet, Chairman of the British Fashion Council [BFC] announced the nominations for The Fashion Awards 2016, alongside Karlie Kloss, Ambassador for the event’s lead partner Swarovski and Caroline Rush, BFC CEO.
Formerly known as the British Fashion Awards, the shakeup by the BFC has allowed the evening to open categories to international nominees, which this year may see the likes of Gigi Hadid and Demna Gvasalia walk the red carpet. Earlier this year, 1500 key industry members were invited to put forward their preferences for each category. With the cross section of nominations representing 41 countries across media, retail, communications and creative disciplines such as photography, art direction, set design and production. Nominations were made in nine categories with the five brands/individuals receiving the most nominations shortlisted in each category.
Even with the events’ new outward and inclusive vision, four awards will still be reserved for British talent alone; Emerging Talent, Menswear designer, womenswear designer and British brand. Molly Goddard, Jonathan Anderson and Erdem all feature across these categories, and reflect the diversity of the country’s contemporary fashion landscape. Other nominees include Vetements for best International Urban Luxury Brand, Christopher Bailey for International business leader as well as Alessandro Michele for Gucci in the International Ready to Wear Designer category. Festivities begin on the 5th of December 2016. Stay tuned for our coverage.
